IF YOU USE A ROBOT TODAY – be sure to read CHAPTER 5 BELOW.

1. GENERAL

This software is designed for Windows XP SP1, 2 & 3 / XP x64 bit / Vista 32 & 64 q Windows 7 32 & 64 bit with SolidWorks 2007 / 2008 /2009 / 2010 .

RobotWorks can run on official SolidWorks Education seats (not Student Edition). RobotWorks will not run on a PC without SolidWorks.

Without registration the program will run for about 30 days and enable exporting up to 20 path point. Registration is only required for purchased copies.

Please be aware that some robot or parts were saved with older versions of SolidWorks, so on your system there might be a message asking you to save them in your SolidWorks version upon loading them for the first time.

2. INSTALLATION

VISTA and Win 7 users:

1. Use XP if you can.

2. RobotWorks positioner might not run on Vista.

3. On Vista 64 bit the dynamic display of vectors might not show. (It works on VISTA 32).

4. You MUST install as administrator with UAC turned off.

5. There may be unspecified errors. Vista compatibility on any user’s computer is not guaranteed.

XP 32 & 64 bit:

You MUST have Administrator rights to install the software. The installer adds entries in the registry and files in your Win...\System32 folder. Drivers and files that are already on your computer will be skipped if they are newer then the ones being installed.

You may need to reboot after the installation (rarely).

To install, run SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions to install RobotWorks into its "program folder" , typically: C:\Program files\RobotWorks65 (on VISTA you are advised to create your own folder under \USERS) , but you can choose a different directory during the installation.

Note for system administrators trying to install RobotWorks remotely over the network:

RobotWorks installer was not designed for remote installation. Run the installation locally on the target computer, using your administrator rights. You may restore the user rights after successful installation.

If you had previous installations of RobotWorks (Beta, Pre-release etc.), DO NOT install this version in the same folder as previous ones (This installation will not upgrade previous RobotWorks). This version uses a new license which must be obtained after registration.

3. LANGUAGE

The text in the program is supplied in a language file called RBW6-xx.LNG, where xx can be EN for English, DE for German or JP for Japanese. English is included in the installation (German and Japanese users please ask your reseller).

4. DOCUMENTATION

HELP and manual is provided in RBW65.CHM (Compiled HTML Help file). You need Microsoft Internet Explorer for that, but it is either already installed on your system or was installed during SolidWorks installation.

Note for users of Microsoft Media Player 9 or up, and users who use Windows Update:

Due to frequent security changes introduced by Microsoft with Media Player 9 and up, the player may not run the movies embedded inside the .CHM file. Instead it runs the movies from folder HMovies (created during RobotWorks installation). QuickPlay and RealPlayer run the movies correctly.

Tutorials and Example are provided with this installation, to make existing users aware of the major changes in previous versions. The tutorials require Acrobat Reader which might be installed on your computer already, or is freely available from Adobe and other sources.

5. ROBOTS

RobotWorks 6.5 comes with 6 robot models, one per major brand. Since the post processors for most robots of the same brand are identical, you can use the sample robot to test your application. Even if the robot is not the exact size, you can still convert and save a job, and test the syntax and motion on your own robot.

ROBOTWORKS SUPPORTS MOST MODELS OF THE MAIN ROBOT MANUFACTURERS, ABB, KUKA, FANUC, MOTOMAN, KAWASAKI and STAUBLI. It does not mean it will work with ANY model, you have to ask us specifically. RobotWorks 6 DOES NOT SUPPORT other robot makes. Contact us if you have questions about this matter.

6. KNOWN ISSUES

ROBOTWORKS 6.5 WILL NOT RUN, NOT EVEN FOR 30 DAYS, ON COMPUTERS WITH PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF ROBOTWORKS INSTALLED (even if they were removed). You need a real license for that. If you are serious about RobotWorks, and willing to tell us what you wish to do, contact support for a 30-days license.

- Any installation problems should be reported to support@robotworks-eu.com with a screen picture showing the error or a description of the operations that caused the error.

- RobotWorks will not install and/or run properly on network installations of SolidWorks. It needs SolidWorks to run on the same computer as RobotWorks.

- Windows XP SP1 & 2 has compatibility issues with many software programs. Some DLL or OCX files may fail to install, other files may not be overwritten, etc. Contact support in case of difficulty.

If you get error L=2000 when starting the program for the first time, it is an indication of a DLL not registered by your Windows Installer. Contact support for an easy fix.

- SolidWorks have introduced new serial numbers in some SW2007 seats, and there is a chance that RobotWorks license will not work (or the program might ask for registration upon first use). In case of problem contact support.

- Vista and Win 7 compatibility and issue differ among users and computer. Some may find RobotWorks working properly, while others may have different problems. Due to the internal security issues in Vista, many times things can be improved by looking for solutions on the net. Our support might help if you send detailed error reports (pictures etc.).

MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE UAC BEFORE INSTALLTION.
